Dental Emergencies |
At some point or other many of us face the need to see the dentist inbetween visits
due to an emergency of some description. There are many reasons you may need to
do this for instance you may be suffering thoothache, or may have even had a tooth
knocked out.
Fortunately, dental emergencies are rare. The most common dental emergency is
severe toothache. Anyone who has experienced severe toothache will no doubt tell
you how bad the pain can be, often preventing you from sleeping and making concentration
very difficult. The pain is caused by infection or inflammation in or around a
tooth. There are many over-the-counter remedies available such as pain killers
and clove oil, but overall, the best solution is prompt attention from a dentist.
The other main kind of dental emergency involves a tooth that has been knocked
out or is broken, caused by some kind of facial blow. Get to a dentist right away.
Teeth that have been knocked out can be saved but you must seek dental assistance
right away. More often than not, placing the detached tooth in a little milk (even
if it is dirty - do not scub) and getting to a dentist right away means it can
be re-implanted and saved. Broken teeth can be treated in a variety of ways, depending
on the size and position of the break. Once again, prompt attention from a dentist
is very important. |
